Lou D'Amato

Biography

Lou D'Amato is an American Actor born to Frances & Louis D'Amato and has an older sibling Karen. His father is of Italian decent and his mother has Irish/Scottish/French ancestry. His paternal great grandfather came over from Italy and settled in Brooklyn NY, where he opened a bakery shop and raised a family. Although Lou is based in New York he is considered a bi-coastal actor as he also has a place he stays in Studio City, CA when filming in LA. Lou has come full circle after many years of dabbling in local theater, commercials and background work while working full-time. With the full support of his wife Debbie, Lou decided to leave the corporate world of finance to pursue his passion of acting on a full-time basis. His first foray was to focus mainly on developing his "actors" instrument by honing in on fundamental skills. Since then, he has trained in LA at the Aaron Speiser Acting Studio, a studio Lou highly recommends; HB Studios in NYC, where he was fortunate to study under the late Jill Clayburgh at her "Master class for Film/TV"; and then back to LA at The Acting Corps to get a taste of Meisner. He continued to coach with Jill after classes ended at HB until her schedule became too demanding. For several years now, Lou has not only been a successful actor but is now working with a long time friend Guile Branco at the production company BrightKnightEntertainment and still can't believe he is living his dream, and because of that, he takes each day as a gift. His wife Debbie is the focal point of his life and is the inspiration behind his move into acting. Since his departure from the corporate world, he has come to realize, acting has been the toughest and most demanding career he has ever been in but LOVES every minute of it. Lou has always been a sports fan and played several sports in High School and college including football, baseball and boxing. He later decided to give his favorite sport, hockey a try when he was in his mid 30s and in 98 played in Toronto during a round robin championship of which his team won the equivalent of the Stanley Cup trophy. Lou is a great admirer of Clint Eastwood both in front and behind the camera. It was that seventies flare of entertainment that really immersed him into film and acting. After seeing the movie "Dirty Harry", he was sold. Today Lou looks for scripts that encompass originality something he says seems harder to find these days.
